Sessions With Babies Like Clark Remind Me that I’m Lucky to be Living My Passion as a Newborn Photographer. Here’s a Sneak Peek of His Portraits

Every day, I count myself lucky to have discovered my passion when I did and followed my heart, turning what was once a hobby into my livelihood. Many people stay in careers that pay the bills but don’t make them particularly happy, and so every time I get to do a Toronto newborn photography session with another wonderful family and brand new baby, like little Clark, I thank my lucky stars that I’m doing what I love.

Back in December, when she was just 5 months pregnant, Clark’s mommy purchased a newborn photography session to be held in May, after this little bundle of joy was born. She was referred to me by a friend who had visited my studio with her own child for Toronto newborn photography. It was so nice getting to know Clark’s mom over the course of the session, and we discovered that our career paths were actually quite similar; we both started out working in law but left those careers to follow our hearts and to do something that truly makes us happy.

Look at that sweet little face! With a baby as precious as Clark, how could I not love being a newborn photographer?

Classic images, such as a baby curled into the ‘taco pose,’ are always a favourite among the parents who come to me for Toronto newborn photography. My guess is that it’s because the focus of the shot is entirely on their sweet babe. For the pillow poses, Clark’s mom chose a simple but ‘all boy’ blue blanket. The images turned out beautifully!

One of the reasons I know that being a newborn photographer is exactly what I am meant to do is I lose all track of time when working with and posing babies. A Toronto newborn photography session typically takes 5 to 8 hours, but I’m always amazed by just how quickly this time passes, as I work to achieve perfect poses set against beautiful lighting and backdrops.

When it came to prop poses, Clark’s mom had her heart set on the vintage Henry Express Wagon, one of the props chosen most often by parents who have recently visited my studio with baby boys. It’s a classic ‘boy’ image, don’t you think?

As a newborn photographer, I’ve learned that every session is unique and that some babies will take more time to soothe and pose while others need little coaxing to fall into the kind of deep sleep that makes my job as a newborn photographer just that much easier. With Clark, we were able to squeeze in a few extra poses, including an additional prop pose with beautiful layering, background and wood flooring, as well as an image of Clark wrapped cozily and positioned on a black fabric background.

I am thrilled with the collection of images we were able to capture during Clark’s session. I hope his family are equally as excited by these keepsakes that they’ll be able to share with others and cherish forever.

A special thank you to Clark’s mom, too, for bringing her sweet baby boy to my studio. It was a pleasure meeting you!
