In July of 2015 Instagram changed the size of an image display to 1080px by 1080px to be in line with Retina and other high resolution displays available on smartphones, tablets and laptops.

Using Collages on Social Media

Collages are a great way to showcase your work on social media. You can show more than one image at a time and this is a great way to set yourself apart on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram.

Here is a download link for a free download of one of the Instagram collages I’ve made for my own use. I use it often to showcase my work on Instagram. You can see the collage in use in the image posted below.

Instructions for Using the Template

I use Adobe Photoshop CC.

To enter images in the template using Photoshop, select the image layer you would like and select FILE and then PLACE EMBEDDED.

Select the folder where the image you want is located. Now select the desired image and press PLACE.

To resize your image, select SHIFT on your keyboard and press and hold your left mouse button at the same time. Now click and drag from a corner of the image until you have the desired size.

Click the MOVE TOOL (V) and position your image over the image layer.

Now click ENTER on your keyboard.

Now click COMMAND, OPTION and G (all at the same time). This locks your image into the image layer.

Voila!!!!

Now repeat the steps above to place your images into each image layer.

Transforming Your Collage Template

I have numbered each image layer from 1 to 12. There is also a layer to enter your logo. You can delete the existing logo layer and make a new layer to enter your own logo. Alternatively, you can just remove the text that is in the existing logo layer and then use the same method for inserting images to insert your logo. It’s always a good idea to have your logo on your work. If your collage is shared or reposted on social media, others will be able to find their way back to your page. Your logo allows other people to know who the creator of the work is. Having your logo on your work also prevents image theft.

You can change this collage around by deleting or adding layers. You can resize the existing layers by selecting the desired image layer and selecting EDIT then TRANSFORM then SCALE. Then click and hold the SHIFT key on your keyboard and drag the image box to the size you would like.
