I am often asked why my newborn session fee is $599. If you divide $599 by 22 hours of work the answer is $27.23 per hour. Take $27.23 and then apply the cost of goods sold on products for each newborn session. Then try to figure out how a photographer would come up with $8,000 to travel and take Newborn Posing Workshops to learn how to work with and pose newborn babies safely. Then try to imagine how a photographer comes up with enough funds to purchase all of the props, hats headbands, backgrounds, flooring, etc. that make a newborn session beautiful. Now we haven’t considered the cost of the professional photography equipment because you want your photographer to be using a professional camera and prime lenses. And then we have not thought about the cost of advertising, referral incentives and living expenses.
