Six years ago, when I was just starting my business as a newborn photographer, beautiful Lily’s parents visited my studio for their first born’s baby portraits. I was so excited to catch up with this family recently, when they brought this smiley little bundle of joy to me for her own collection of newborn photography.
Sleepy Babies in Baby Portraits with Varied Poses
Lily’s parents drove all the way from Belleville for baby portraits, which is something not all parents feel brave enough to do when a baby is only days old. But, when I saw just how content this sweet little girl was to curl up and sleep, I could see that a car trip is probably no big deal and that she’d be happy to go just about anywhere!
Sometimes, I photograph newborns who require me to use all of the baby-soothing skills I’ve learned and created as a newborn photographer and mom, but every now and again, there’s a baby like Lily who is such a good little sleeper, the session goes by quite quickly and we’re able to incorporate a variety of poses and props.
As a newborn photographer, I’ve got to use the baby’s cues to determine which types or the number of poses we’ll use during a session. Not every baby, for instance, can be photographed in the pose with the weigh scale, but dozy little Lily was the perfect candidate. Look at her, just snug as a bug!
It was so neat to see this lovely family six years later. Things have changed a great deal since their first session at my studio, but my first clients will always stand out in my memory. After all, it’s clients like these who helped me get my business off the ground.
I’ve seen so many families grow over the years, as they’ve brought each of their newest additions for baby portraits. Some of my clients have even had three babies since I started out as a newborn photographer! I’m hoping I’ll be lucky enough to photograph the fourth babies, for those families who have them, and that I’ll still be doing what I love when my clients start to have their first grandbabies.
