Sometimes mom even finds some time to take photos of her own little angel . . .

Many of you ask me how you can capture better pictures of your children. Because I’ve received so many questions on this topic, I’ve decided to start a photography tips series on my blog! Over the course of the next 6 weeks, I’ll be posting one tip every week including tips and tricks for capturing better shots of your little ones. Subscribe to my blog to be notified of these tips and be sure to tell your friends!
Photo Tip No. 1 ~ Think Outside the Box!
Get creative when taking your photos by changing positions - get down on your knees or get up on a chair! A simple way to make your photography more interesting is to change the position or angle of the camera. Most people take their pictures facing their subjects straight on. Try varying your camera position for interesting results that are often unexpected.
One of my favourite positions for photography is to get down on my belly. This is how I shoot most of my child photography. It allows me to get down at the same level as the little ones making their personality and spirit come alive!
You can also do the reverse and get up on a chair, ladder or set of stairs and take pictures from above. This changes the entire perspective of the photograph. Give it a try and you’ll be surprised at the results!
Another simple way to get an interesting effect is to rotate the camera from the normal shooting position. We are so used to seeing our subjects straight up and down. By tilting the camera, our subjects get titled as well adding a creative perspective.
One last thing! Try adding negative space around your subject. Negative space combined with an off centre subject can add a lot of impact to some images!

Something new, fun and exciting to photograph!!! This was so much fun photographing this little girl’s cake smashing session!!! I met this little girl and her wonderful parents when she was 5 months old for a photo session at their home. I just saw her again recently with her mom at my home studio for 10 month portraits and now I had the opportunity to photograph her again for her one year birthday!!! How fun this was! Thanks so much guys!!
Thanks so much to Melissa of Honey Bee Cake Creations for providing the BEAUTIFUL birthday cake! For fun and innovative cake ideas, check out her web site at Honey Bee Cake Creations!

I hope all of you enjoyed a wonderful long weekend!
Maddy and I went to Nana and Papa’s for the weekend and it was nice to leave the computer, the phone and the e-mails behind for a change.
It’s become apparent that I’m no longer able to keep up with the requests for newborn sessions. I’m a full-time mom, wife, business woman and photographer. I never thought in a million years that things would get this busy this quickly. I want to thank each and every one of you - my friends, family, clients and everyone who’s expressed interest in my photography for helping me get to where I am today. I plan on finding daycare for my daugther so I can open up more weekly newborn sessions but for now August through October are already half booked.
Maddy and I found time to have our own photo session this past weekend. I’m so grateful to have found this time. It may have been just in Nana and Papa’s backyard but to see my little girl’s excitement with picking flowers from the garden and to see her fascination with playing with a blade of grass, I’m so grateful to have these images. Now, that day will always be etched in my mind. I can remember every single detail of her funny grins, her smiles, her enthusiasm, her excitement to discover every little thing about life.
I wanted to let each of you into my heart and share the special time I had with my daughter this past weekend. Photography has taken over my life. It makes me feel utter joy and happiness in capturing special times for families. I believe pictures should tell a story, not just a snapshot in time. I’m by no means a traditional photographer and I will never ask you to sit and say cheese. What I’m all about is capturing real moments in time that will bring you back to a special place in your life. Often little details that may be quickly forgotten but that will never be forgotten when captured on camera.

I gave this post the title “Uh Oh! Someone’s in Nana’s Flower Garden” because uh oh is my little girl’s favorite word these days and although picking the flowers was something Nana wasn’t thrilled about, it made for some priceless images!
Here’s a sneak peak of a few images from our session!
